Dorothea Lange

I was introduced to Dorothea Lange's work a few years back and had forgotten how fantastic it is. Dorothea's social commentary work doing the Depression era in America really captures the despair and stark reality of the situations people found themselves in. More of Dorothea's work can be found at this website.

John Hallen

John Hallmen specialises in macro photography (which incidentally is becoming my favourite area of photography) but in particular, insects. The images he captures are phenomenal and show these tiny creatures in a whole different light. The image of the ant is so detailed and the second image shows the beautiful colourations on a fly of all things. The shot of the fly is aptly named 'sleeping jewel'.

It didn't occur to me that the setups for these shots would be difficult. The third image of the equipment is of John's studio setup. At this point, i'm not even sure what half of the stuff is, but John does explain how to achieve an affordable setup on his Flickr photo stream. More of John's work can be found on his website.

Martin Krenovsky

The image of the post in the lake is just brilliant. It's just simple and very well executed, he must take the long exposure shots in bulb mode to get the clouds and water so light and soft. I recently went out to take photos like this and having seeing Martin's work, I know I have a long way to go to capture fantastic images. More of Martin's work can be found on his Flickr stream.

Seth Casteel

To continue the dog theme, these images are priceless as well. These shots are hilarious but there are others that show the dogs in a quite an intense way with all their teeth nashing at the ball they are chasing. More or Seth's work can be found at this website.

Carli Davidson

I think these photos are fantastic! I'm an animal lover an believe all animals have their own personalities. In both images their is a real sense of character in the dogs.  These photos really make me smile, but I then frown straight away, as a reminisce of the times I've had to ensure my dogs shaking off water. The black and white photos work really well and the use of the faster shutter really captures a moment. More of Carli's work can be found at her website.

Light Painting - Dennis Calvert

I've seen some light paintings before but these are easily the best I've laid my eyes on. I particularly like the first one because of the really bright back lighting sets off the haunting backdrop while illuminating the burning man. This is a technique I'd really like to try some day. More of Dennis' work can be found at his website, he even shares his knowledge in a tutorials section.
